Can Nintendo really attract “hardcore” gamers ?
Ok my last post it came off as a rant, but I have my reasons. This time I was thinking, Can Nintendo really go after a new breed of gamers? Who am I referring too ? Well since the Wii U console is going to be much more technically advanced than the current Wii and more powerful than the Xbox 360 and PS3 (on theory).
It appears Nintendo is happy to ditch their existing fan base to go after the “FPS fan boyz” that currently reside on the Xbox and Playtation platforms, however this can backfire against Nintendo since they have a very large fan base of “casual” gamers made up Grandmas, moms and dads’ to the preppy crowd, that live in condos. It is these people that have made Nintendo what it is today, they buy the games that the Wii has to offer and they buy allot.
The current plan will see Nintendo take a much different route going after gamers that like high end graphics and action titles like FPS shooters, action adventure games, only problem is that these people are already loyal to their existing consoles and you can also forget about trying to get loyal PC gamers to switch to the Wii U platform.
Only time will tell if Nintendo is doing the right thing with the Wii U. But to me it seems that Nintendo ought not to forget their loyal fans that have made Nintendo what it is today. Currently the Wii platform is all but forgotten, Why ? keep feeding the fan base Nintendo! release more games for the Wii!
It will be hard in my opinion to go after the “hardcore” gamers.
